Luis Alberto Muñoz Ubando
Luis Alberto Muñoz Ubando is Chief Innovation Officer at Merida, Mexico-based Grupo Plenum and President South-East and VP Innovation at the Mexico IT chamber, CANIETI. He received the B.S. degree in electronics and control systems engineering from ITESM-Campus Estado de México in 1993 and the D.E.A. and Ph.D. degrees in robotics from ENSIMAG, Grenoble, France, in 1994 and 1999, respectively. His doctoral dissertation focused on the real-time control of dexterous manipulation with robotic hands.
He was a Postdoctoral Research Fellow within the Department of Engineering Science at the University of Oxford, U.K. and since returning to Mexico in 2000, he managed the applied math, computer science, and engineering section of the Knowledge and Innovation Program of the Mexican Research Council (CONACYT), as a part of the World Bank´s Millenium Initiative.
During 1998-2000 he was part of the first Latin American IPO (Initial Public Offering) of Starmedia, later acquired by Altavista.
In 2008, Dr. Muñoz founded “The Robotics Institute of Yucatán and was parallely appointed Chief Innovation Officer of Grupo Plenum, one of the most respected tech-based innovative companies in southern Mexico.
Luis Alberto has founded more than 10 Startups in the US, México and France and holds patents in logistics, education, e-health and sustainability, amongst other fields
